Meet Boo!
Boo came to us via our connections with the wonderful CANTER Illinois.
He had sadly bowed his tendon in a race on August 10th, 2021
He had not received any medical care as his owner/trainer had fallen ill.
He had been in his stall, still going out on a hot walker, despite the injury, for over a month.
He arrived at Rowley Ranch on September 8th, 2021 and we started his rehab right away.
On September 9th we had Dr. Griffin from Southern Illinois Equine Clinic out to do an ultrasound on the leg.
It was found that he has bowed his Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon and possibly impacted his Deep Digital Flexor Tendon as well.
He had such edema around the tendon that it was hard to tell how much damage had occurred to the ddft.
The SDFT has mushroomed outwards in an unusual way and looks like swish cheese!
We elected to do PRP Platelet therapy on the leg to try to assist in rebuilding the framework in the holes and speed healing
He was then on complete stall rest with 20 minutes of cold hosing therapy per day and wrapping at night time.
We are had the farrier out to correct his feet as his long toe and low heal were not helping.
Once we complete another round of ultrasouds he started to be allowed out for hand walking.
This slowly increased over the next few months to roundpen tunrout time
Then to our small acre pasture and finally the 10 acre field.
From day one it's as though he knows we are trying to help him and he stands perfectly still and calm for all treatments.
Thankfully after his last ultrasound it was deemed that he can go on to perform any career, including jumping.
We would like to see him in a low impact home where he will be taken care of for years to come to maintain his soundness.
He would not be suitable for speed events, barrels, eventing etc as this could risk re-injury.
He is currently out on pasture 24/7 and does wonderfully out there.
He is middle to lower in the pack and is more on the submissive side.
We believe more movement is better for previous tendon injuries and diverse terrain is also great.
Luckily he is very sensible out in the pasture and doesn't act silly or run around.
He does crib if kept in a stall but does not need to wear a collar in the field.
We have not re-started Boo under saddle so he would be a fresh re-start for someone experienced.
He is a beautiful mover and even with the bow he never took a lame step amazingly.
He has a wonderful personality and is also RRP Eligible for 2023
Up to date on feet, coggins, vaccines, deworming, teeth.
Stands well for the farrier and loads and trailers well.
A complete medical history will be provided to serious buyers.
We care a lot about this gorgeous boy and feel so grateful that we were able to save him from a career ending injury.
Fee: $3,000
