Rupert
22 Yrs Old
16.3 hh
Belgian Gelding
Rupert is the sweetest Teddy Bear of a Belgian boy!
Don't let his senior status fool you though, he is the best mover of the bunch.
He still has a ton of go in him and really likes to trot out on the lunge line!
He came in quite underweight and upon having his teeth floated we noted that he will need a mash to get his weight back up
He currently gets:
Unlimited Grass Hay
4 Lbs of soaked alfalfa Pellets - 2x per day
6 Lbs of Sweet Feed - 2x per day
2 oz of Cocosoya Oil - 2x per day
1 Cup of Outlast - 2x per day
Trace Minerals
This amount of feed has him steadily gaining weight. He has been on this diet for a week and we no longer see any ribs!
Once he is at a good weight, this amount of extra mash can be cut back, starting with the oil and sweet feed.
He has warmed up to us greatly since arriving as well and we think he was owned by someone who had a firmer hand before
He isn't very fond of crops or sticks and acts like you might try to hit him with them if you have one, so we have avoided using them all together.
He is very sound and we think he will make a wonderful pleasure horse, trail horse, and all around love bug
Drafts have the same life span as regular horses and often live to 32-35 years old
He stands very well to be groomed and brushed, but he is not a big fan of being sprayed with sprays.
We are working on him gaining confidence with picking up his feet as he was a little unsure of what we were asking originally.
He stands great to be saddled and bridled and has a very gentle mouth on the bit
Great on the lunge line and very gentle
Under saddle Rupert is a lovely forward boy. He really likes to truck along with a big swinging walk
He trots easily and moved out wonderfully give his size and age.
Will go over trot poles and is gentle in the mouth
He does best if someone holds him to get on from a mounting block as he's still learning what a mounting block is.
Responds well to Amish commands like "Step Up" to go faster and "Stand" for standing for mounting/ dismounting.
He is up to date on teeth floating, Coggins, vaccinations, and de worming and is being scheduled to have his feet trimmed.
